The Bonds of Family: Love Across the Miles

Family is where you learn to love. A loving family is about reminding each other that you are always there for them, even when you live far away and don’t talk frequently. The first night in New Jersey, I found myself laying in my cousin Julia’s bed. She is 19, and I am 23. Despite the six-hour distance between us, she has always been like the little sister I never had.

As we reminisced, Julia shared how she used to love coming to New Hampshire to see me. She’d hide under the blankets to surprise me, and we’d cry when it was time to part ways. Those moments were filled with innocent joy and a bond that felt unbreakable. Now, as adults, our lives have taken different paths. I am an entrepreneur, and Julia is pursuing her master’s degree. Despite our busy lives and the physical distance, we spent the evening talking, laughing, and catching up. It felt just like old times.

Love is about trust. It’s about loving each other with all our flaws. Being with Julia reminded me that no matter how far apart we are or how much time passes between our conversations, the love we have for each other remains constant.
